Economic supports and programs available to businesses and individuals are consistently evolving and eligibility rules can be extensive and complex. Important COVID Updates

Wage Subsidy

NEW Canada Recovery Hiring Program (CRHP)

 From June 6, 2021 to November 2021

  • Claim either CRHP or CEWS Periods 17 to 20 (whichever gives higher amount)

Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS)  

Extended until October 23, 2021

  • Maximum subsidy of 65% (including the 25% top up) until December 19, 2020.
  • Beginning December 20, 2020, the maximum subsidy increased to 75% (40% base and 35% top up). 
  • Beginning in Claim Period 18, must have revenue drop of over 10%
  • Gradual decline in subsidy rate from Claim Periods 18 to 20.


Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS) 

Extended until October 23, 2021

  • Provides direct rental and mortgage support to eligible businesses.
  • The subsidy covers up to 65% of eligible rent costs.
  • A top up of 25% will be available if your business is ordered to close or is significantly affected by public health orders for one week or longer.

Emergency Loans

Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA)  

The June 30, 2021 CEBA Application Period Deadline has now passed. New applicants can no longer apply for a $60,000 loan or the $20,000 expansion.

    • For Existing Non-Deferrable Expense Applicants:
      • Initial document submission deadline of July 14, 2021 has passed.
      • The document resubmission deadline of September 3, 2021 has passed.
    • For $20,000 Expansion Applicants Required to Submit Additional Information Related to Their Business Number:
      • Deadline to submit additional information related to your business number of September 10, 2021 has passed.
    • For $20,000 Expansion Applicants Required to Requalify Under the Non-Deferrable Expense Stream:
      • The initial document submission deadline is October 1, 2021.
      • The document resubmission deadline is October 29, 2021.

  • Increase from $40,000 to $60,000
  • Up to $20,000 forgivable provided loan is repaid by December 31, 2022.
  • If you have already accessed CEBA, you will be eligible for this expansion if your business has been affected by COVID-19.

 Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB)  

Applications are now open

If you have traveled internationally since January 3, 2021 – you may not be eligible.

  • For employed and self-employed individuals who are not entitled to Employment Insurance (EI).
  • Receive $1,000 for a 2-week period up to a total of 13 periods between September 27, 2020 and September 25, 2021.
  • You must apply for each period.


Worker Income Protection Benefit

  • Provides eligible employees with 3 paid sick days related to COVID-19
  • Paid by employer, and reimbursed by WSIB (even if you do not have existing account)
  • Up to $200 a day for employees without an equivalent program
  • Begins April 29, 2021
